2008 Hurricane Season
The Virginia Department of Emergency Management encourages Virginians to prepare for the 2008 hurricane season. All residents should plan to protect themselves, their families and their pets in the event of a hurricane or tropical storm. There are three easy, low-cost steps families can take to get ready:
The Assembly Policy Reference Committee formulates policy guidance on strengthening the fellowship of WCC member churches, relationships with churches and partners not presently members, the coherence of the one ecumenical movement, and eventual changes to the WCC's constitution and rules. Children’s advocacy highlighted

Children’s advocacy highlighted in Global Action for Children organization brings a strengthened partnership with Global Action for Children (GAC) and Church World Service(CWS). GAC is a “nonpartisan, results-oriented coalition dedicated to advocating for orphans and other vulnerable children (OVC) in the developing world.” Their mission is to “increase the level of funding by the governments of the wealthy countries for orphans and other vulnerable children in some of the poorest countries of the world.”
Church World Service (CWS) has been working with GAC since its inception as a coalition in September of 2003. CWS was one of GAC’s first members. According to Jennifer Delaney, Executive Director of GAC, CWS hosted many of the coalition’s meetings before GAC acquired their own offices. She says, “ It was the assistance of CWS advocates that helped lay the ground work for where GAC is today.”
New York, October 3, 2007 – The Rev. Dr. Michael Kinnamon, a Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) clergyman and a long-time educator and ecumenical leader, is the nominee for General Secretary of the National Council of Churches (USA).
If affirmed by the council's Governing Board and General Assembly next month, Kinnamon will become the Council's ninth general secretary since its beginnings in 1950. He succeeds the Rev. Bob Edgar who resigned August 31 to become president and CEO of Common Cause.
