Meet the Leadership of the Virginia Council of Churches

 Rev. Dr. John Myers, a native of Wilmington, Delaware, John and his wife of 28  years, Angela currently reside in Chesapeake. They have three sons, Troy, Tory,  and Terry. John is active with the NAACP and serves on the Board of Trustees at  Franklinton Center. He is currently serves as Associate Conference Minister for the  Eastern Virginia Association, Southern Conference of the United Church of Church.  In 2014, he was elected president of the Virginia Council of Churches.

 A 21-year veteran of the US Navy, John received his M.Div. from the Samuel  DeWitt Proctor School of Theology at Virginia Union University and his Doctor of  Ministry from Chicago Theological Seminary.

 
Reverend John T. Myers is the pastor of Corinth Chapel United Church of Christ. Some of his extracurricular activities include the following: Life member of the Chesapeake branch of the NAACP, Board of Directors of the United Black Christians of the United Church of Christ, President of the Eastern Virginia Association of the United Church of Christ, Secretary of the Holland Ministerial Alliance and the treasurer for the Ministers for Racial, Social, and Economic Justice Hampton Roads. He is currently serving on the Board of Directors of the Southern Conference of the United Church of Christ and Justice and Witness for the national church. Educational accomplishments include the following: Bachelor of Arts Degree in Mathematics from San Diego State University. 

Rev. Jenee Gilchrist A native of Richmond, Virginia, Reverend Jenee’ Gilchrist is the Youth and Young Adult minister at Pilgrim Journey Baptist Church in Henrico, Virginia.  Reverend Gilchrist was licensed to preach the Gospel in 2010 and received her Master of Divinity degree from the Samuel Dewitt Proctor School of Theology at Virginia Union University in May of 2012. She was ordained in June of 2013.
She is currently the Vice President of the Virginia Council of Churches and also a member of the board of directors for the Virginia Interfaith Center for Public Policy.
Reverend Gilchrist received her B.A. in English from Bennett College in Greensboro, NC (1997) and her M.A. in English (2203), with a minor in Women’s Studies, from East Carolina University in Greenville, NC.  She truly believes in living her life according to one of her favorite scriptures, “So in everything, do to others what you would have them do to you, for this sums up the Law and the Prophets.”




Pastor Kate Proctor Costa was ordained on January 14, 2012 in the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America. She is originally from Abingdon, VA where she grew up with her four siblings.  She attended college at William and Mary, graduating in 2006 with a degree in Neuroscience.   She spent a year in Berlin working at the American Church in Berlin as a pastoral intern.  Kate graduated with honors from the Lutheran Theological Seminary in Philadelphia in May 2011.  A life-long Lutheran, this congregation is her first call as pastor. In 2014, she was elected to serve as Secretary for the Virginia Council of Churches.
Pastor Kate is married to Jon Costa.  They have been married for three years, and love hiking, kayaking and the adventure of life together!
